About This Office

 The Office for Senior Citizens

  • Comprises the Director, Executive Assistant and five policy staff.
  • Reports to the Minister for Senior Citizens through the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development.
  • Is located on the Ministry of Social Development Campus, in the Charles Fergusson Building West Block, Bowen Street, Wellington.
  • Supports the vision for Positive Ageing in New Zealand.

The New Zealand Positive Ageing Strategy establishes a set of principles as a framework for integrating policies and programmes across the government sector.

The vision of the New Zealand Positive Ageing Strategy is for: "a society where people can age positively, where older people are highly valued and where they are recognised as an integral part of families and communities. New Zealand will be a positive place in which to age when older people can say that they live in a society that values them, acknowledges their contributions and encourages their participation."
